At about 10:25 PM on Tuesday, March 25th, the Athens Police Department went to the scene of a vehicle vs. pedestrian hit-and-run accident on U.S. 72 west of Interstate 65. According to the preliminary inquiry, the pedestrian was headed west on U.S. 72 while the vehicle was going in the opposite direction. The automobile hit the pedestrian and went on to travel eastbound on U.S. 72, fleeing the scene. The pedestrian suffered injuries that posed a threat to life and was taken to a nearby hospital. At this moment, the pedestrian’s identity and status are unclear. The Athens Police Department suspects that the vehicle involved was a dark gray Kia Telluride from the 2020-2024 model years. The Athens Police Department is seeking help from the public to find both the vehicle and its driver. Individuals who have information can reach out to Lieutenant Caldwell at 256-233-6802.
