On Sunday, March 23rd, after a near-drowning incident last month, Lawrence County EMS first responders and the family of a two-year-old boy came together for an emotional reunion at the Jason Dickey Memorial Fire Training Center. The gathering honored the amazing collaboration that resulted in the child’s complete recovery. Grant, aged two, was at a Lawrence County home with his family on February 9th when relatives suddenly became aware of his absence. After a frantic search, Grant was discovered in a nearby swimming pool, unresponsive and not breathing. His family immediately dialed 911 and started CPR, triggering a swift emergency response that ultimately saved his life. After multiple Lawrence County first responder teams arrived on the scene, it was determined to transport Grant to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. Due to the immediate actions of his family, first responders, and hospital personnel, Grant has made a complete recovery and is now a happy, healthy, and growing little boy. Those who were involved in the incident met to celebrate the wonderful outcome. It was a wonderful time to thank medical personnel and be grateful for the blessings of life. This event is a reminder that knowing CPR is very important, teamwork, and preparedness for life-saving techniques.
