During the weekend, an elderly couple was saved after they got stuck in their car as floodwaters rose. The Giles County Sheriff’s Office reported that the couple’s vehicle was washed off the road at around 11:00 PM on Saturday, March 15th. While the couple were situated on Horne Hill Road, a secluded area of the county between Lawrenceburg and Pulaski, they allegedly contacted deputies for assistance. However, because there were several water rescues in progress at that time, they had to remain in their vehicle for over thirty minutes before help arrived. Officials advised the couple to remain calm and that help was on the way. When first responders arrived, the water level had reached a foot from the glove compartment. Officials stated they believed if they did not respond when they did, two fatalities may have occurred. The front windshield was broken to secure both parties in the vehicle. The couple only suffered bumps and bruises and was successfully saved.
