Happy Saint Patrick’s Day from WLX! Saint Patrick’s Day, observed on March 17th, honors the death of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, and is a day to celebrate Irish culture, with traditions such as parades, green attire, and Irish whiskey. Fun facts about Saint Patrick’s Day; green is the known color for the holiday but, the color blue was originally associated with a saint. The first recorded St. Patrick’s Day parade took place in New York in 1762. Since 1962 in Chicago, the river has been dyed green every year originally to spot sewage leaks, now it is a tradition for the festivities. Saint Patrick was the patron saint of Ireland but was likely born in what is now Wales or England, not Ireland. At the age of sixteen, St. Patrick was kidnapped by Irish pirates and taken to Ireland as a slave. A three-leaf clover was used by St. Patrick to explain the Holy Trinity to the Irish people.
