The city of Columbia plans to finalize a $4 million budget this month to construct a new street paving contract, the largest in Columbia’s history. The project is expected to cover 19.6 of the city’s 237 miles of road, or around 450 miles of roadway. The Columbia City Council will vote on the $4 million budget Thursday as part of the board’s consent agenda, which includes other non-controversial items. While the current paving project list is provisional and includes over 20 road miles, several council members highlighted a few absences at the council’s March study session on Thursday. Some council members were determined that Galloway Street, in particular, required significant upgrades. With the largest budget yet, many streets will be able to have the appropriate repairs made and ultimately benefit the city.
