Tennessee residents can securely dispose of household hazardous garbage on a collection day set for the end of the month. Lawrence County’s Solid Waste Facility is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste Collection event on Saturday, March 29th, from 8:00 AM to noon. The complex is located at 2126 Baler Drive, off Helton Drive, in Lawrenceburg. The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation covers all costs for this event, which is free and available to all homes. Tennessee households generate an average of 20 pounds of hazardous waste annually, which includes cleaning fluids, pesticides, antifreeze, fertilizers, and pool chemicals. Hazardous home waste refers to items that can readily catch fire, irritate living tissue, react strongly with water or chemicals, or pose a risk to humans and animals. Items such as motor oil, antifreeze, automobile products, automotive batteries, solvents, household cleaners, furniture polishes, drain openers, bleach, nail polish and remover, pesticides, compressed gas tanks (e.g. propane and oxygen), rechargeable batteries, lithium and button batteries, mercury thermometers, and fluorescent light bulbs are also included. For more information, you can call 931-766-0900.
