Following an investigation conducted by Captain Caleb Durden, the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office arrested Nickie Van Davis, 72, of Athens, AL, on accusations of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12. On March 4th, 2025, Captain Durden produced a report outlining charges of child sexual assault. Evidence gathered during the investigation showed that there could be other victims. The findings in this initial investigation created probable cause to arrest Davis. Captain Durden and Investigator Jesse Gibson proceeded to Davis’s residence, where he attempted to run but was apprehended. This investigation is ongoing, and new charges are expected. Davis’s bond is set at $1,000,000 cash in this first instance. His victims are thought to have been between the ages of 2 and 15, and his crimes may have occurred over a decade. Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin stated, “I am incredibly thankful to those who bravely came forward today to help break the cycle of abuse. Your courage is an inspiration to us all. To all survivors of these horrific crimes, please know that you are not alone; we stand with you and are ready to support you whenever you choose to come forward”.
