The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation recently gave the Lewis County Transfer Station its fourth consecutive flawless inspection. TDEC paid a surprise visit to the Transfer Station on February 13th, 2025, to inspect the solid waste facility. Out of the 95 different observable categories indicated on the TDEC inspection form, no severe infractions or even minor areas of concern were identified. Since 1994, the State of Tennessee has required that each of Tennessee’s 95 counties operate and manage Transfer Stations and Landfills. TDEC officers conduct random inspections of these facilities throughout the year to ensure compliance with a wide range of Solid Waste concerns. Such inspections include observing the facility to ensure that the landfill/pit area is properly covered; proper erosion controls are in place; ground water monitoring systems are maintained; all permits are current; recycling efforts are underway; litter is under control; and household waste is disposed of properly, among dozens of other topics. Congratulations to the staff for doing a great job at the Transfer Station in Lewis County.
