Improvements to Henry Horton State Park, such as a new 76-room lodge, an upgraded park entrance, accessibility upgrades across the park, and upgrades to river access points, have officials at Tennessee State Parks thrilled. The new park amenities will be built following a master plan concept that maintains the Duck River as the focus of visitor experiences. Older buildings, such as the existing lodge, the former restaurant building, and the swimming pool, will be demolished as part of the improvements. The current lodge will stay open until the new lodge is prepared to receive guests, and construction will be staggered to minimize any negative effects on tourists. On the property of former Tennessee Governor Henry Horton, Henry Horton State Park was established in the 1960s. As part of his long-term conservation plan, Governor Lee recently preserved the park by executive order. It is located on the banks of the picturesque Duck River and features one of the most diversified ecosystems in the world.
