Florence Police Respond to a Medical Call Resulting in an Arrest

Officers from the Florence Police Department responded to a medical call involving a male who was acting erratically on Royal Avenue in Florence on February 16th, 2025. Rodger Buttrum became agitated and screamed as officers made contact with him, disturbing the crowd. Officers tried to arrest Buttrum, but he balled his fists and resisted. He was transferred to the North Alabama Medical Center for treatment after being arrested, and then he was released to the Lauderdale County Detention Center. One of the officers sustained a leg injury. Buttrum was first accused of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and assault second. The charge of assault second has been dropped and lowered to assault third.
