The recently refurbished Columbia Fire Station No. 01 will now have a life-saving Baby Box installed thanks to a partnership between the City of Columbia and Safe Haven Baby Boxes. In addition to guaranteeing that every baby receives prompt medical attention and the chance to be adopted, this installation will give parents in distress a safe, secure, and anonymous way to surrender their babies. Within two weeks after giving birth, mothers are permitted by the Tennessee Safe Haven statute to give unharmed infants to approved facilities, such as hospitals, fire stations, and law enforcement, in total confidentially and without fear of legal repercussions. Innovative safety features included in the infant Box system include an internal door that enables medical staff to quickly rescue the infant and provide emergency care, as well as a secure external door that locks automatically when a newborn is placed inside. For parents dealing with severe difficulties, this life-saving program provides an essential, caring alternative. The goal of Safe Haven Baby Boxes is to make sure that no parent experiences despair in times of need and that no child is left uncared for. The community is being asked to donate to Safe Haven Baby Boxes to support this vital effort. Safe Haven Baby Boxes is the direct recipient of donations. You can visit www.secure.qgiv.com to donate.
