On Thursday, January 30th, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force executed an arrest warrant for Nicholas James Murphy, a Madison, Alabama citizen. Murphy, a former performance arts teacher at Ardmore High School, was arrested and charged with two charges of sexual contact, two counts of sexual act, and two counts of soliciting obscene material. Murphy left his position at Ardmore High School on January 13th. The arrest followed a combined investigation by the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and the Department of Homeland Security Investigations. This investigation exemplifies law enforcement agencies’ joint efforts to fight internet child abuse and hold perpetrators accountable. He was booked into the Madison County Jail and is being detained on a $70,000 bail. The public is reminded that child safety is a key priority, and any information regarding online child exploitation should be reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) at 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678).
