Lewis County Government was informed by TEMA and FEMA representatives that the county would be receiving $97,333 in assistance to help cover expenses associated with clearing debris from the tornado that struck the community on April 1st, 2023. FEMA reports that the Solid Waste Department will receive $6,951 and the Highway Department will receive $90,382. The federal government will provide 75% of that funding, with the states providing the remaining 25%. After a long process, county representatives were able to submit all required paperwork to FEMA ensuring the county would receive the funds for repairs.
