At the Miss UNA pageant held Saturday night in Norton Auditorium on the UNA campus, Caroline Coleman, a senior from Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, was named Miss UNA. Coleman will now proceed to a competition later this year to compete for the title of Miss Alabama. Coleman, who is majoring in psychology, sang a piece from a classical opera during the program’s talent showcase. After Pam Long became the first student to hold the title in 1974, Coleman is the 50th student to be proclaimed Miss UNA. There are five stages in which 13 contestants fight for the title of Miss UNA: private interview, on-stage questions, health and fitness, talent/HER story, and evening gown. In addition to a Miss UNA Custom Designed Ring from Creative Jewelers in downtown Florence, Miss UNA will receive a one-year tuition grant. A formal prelude to the Miss Alabama and Miss America competitions is the Miss UNA pageant.
