Elzie Stooksberry Obituary
There are not enough words to describe the husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to all that was Elzie Stooksberry. On January 24, 2025, he joyously joined all of his siblings in Heaven, leaving behind his earthly family to carry on.

Elzie will be deeply missed by his wife of 61 years, Brenda Dishongh Stooksberry; his daughter, Lisa Stooksberry Hill (Douglas), and his son, Scott Stooksberry (Melissa); his beloved grandchildren, Mitchell Stooksberry, Brooklyn Stooksberry, and Brennan Stooksberry; a lifelong family of in-laws; and many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Erbie and Pearl Daniel Stooksberry; five sisters, Pauline Williams, Lucille Moore, Annie Holden, Clura Richter, and Evelyn Stooksberry; three brothers, Edward Stooksberry, Alvin Stooksberry, and Terry Stooksberry; one niece; and two nephews.

Elzie was a man of strong character who said what he meant and meant what he said. He carried his load in life with humor, grace, and persistence, and he would readily help carry your load if you needed a hand.

Elzie was first and foremost a family man and, though he leaves his family with a gaping hole in their hearts, they celebrate his life. They loved, admired, and respected him and are committed to continuing in his spirit of kindness and generosity.

Elzie always had a story to share and his trademark opening line was, “Let me tell ya a good one,” which was followed by a big grin and sometimes a cackle or two. As we bid him goodbye, we are reminded that the true “good one” was the storyteller himself.

Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. In celebration of Elzie’s life, a graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Lawrence County Memorial Gardens. Longtime friend and pastor Bobby Gobble will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Polio Heroes of Tennessee (Easterseals) or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASCPA).
