With great pride, TDCI and the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office announced that the Volunteer Firefighter Equipment and Training Grant Program will provide $10 million in grants to 245 volunteer fire departments in Tennessee in 2025.
The Volunteer Firefighter Equipment and Training Grant Program was established by legislation approved by the Tennessee General Assembly and supervised by Governor Bill Lee. It gives grant funds to volunteer fire companies. Volunteer departments use the money to buy firefighting gear or to assist in fulfilling local matching requirements for federal equipment grants. Volunteer fire stations in all three of Tennessee’s Grand Divisions have received grants totaling $26.5 million since the program’s inception in 2020. Local Lawrence County Departments that are grant recipients are; the Henryville Volunteer Fire Department, Center Point Fire and Rescue, West End Volunteer Fire Department, Summertown Community Fire Department, Leoma Fire and Rescue, Lawrence County Fire Rescue, Iron City Volunteer Fire Department, Gandy Volunteer Fire Department, Southeast Lawrence County Volunteer Fire Department, Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department, and City of Loretto Fire Department.
