Due to extremely low temperatures, the demand for electricity in the southeast United States is reaching near-record levels. The Tennessee Valley Authority and local utilities are requesting that consumers cut back on their power usage. According to TVA, the request is entirely optional and does not signify that an emergency is occurring at TVA. Nevertheless, local utilities and TVA advise consumers to set their thermostats between 65 and 68 degrees. You can save up to 3% on your monthly energy bill for every degree you decrease your thermostat. Other ways to lower power usage are open window coverings on sunny days, unplugging unused electronics, and unblocking air vents. Other ways are reducing the use of hot water and adjusting heater temperatures, as well as weatherstripping doors and windows.
