As part of its yearly Founders’ Day celebration, the University of North Alabama celebrated 195 years of academic excellence on January 13th. Founded in 1830 on the site of LaGrange College in Colbert County, UNA is the oldest four-year public university in Alabama. The Guillot University Center hosted the annual Founders’ Day celebration, which featured two other anniversaries: the UNA Marching Band’s 75th anniversary and the academic program’s 50th anniversary in social work. Both have been crucial to UNA’s dedication to quality in the arts, education, and service. In addition to the event, UNA urged the community and campus to express their Lion pride by dressing in their favorite purple clothing on Purple Pride Day. In addition to enjoying refreshments, attendees of the Founders’ Day event had the chance to “Build-a-Lion” as a unique memento to remember the occasion. Through the University of North Alabama’s Shine On, Gold comprehensive campaign, Founders’ Day is also an opportunity to support the school. Donations to the 1830 Fund, made in collaboration with President Kitts and his leadership team, will immediately benefit the campus community by directly addressing the university’s most pressing issues and new goals. The support of friends and alumni contributes to UNA’s continued success.
