As temperatures drop, the risk of home fires rises. To ensure that you and your family stay safe, the State Fire Marshal’s Office recommends that you have working smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in your home. Keep fire extinguishers on-hand, and make sure that everyone in the household knows how to use them. Never use your oven to heat your home. Turn off portable heaters before leaving a room or going to bed. And be sure to keep anything that can burn at least three feet away from your heating equipment at all times.
