Dot Garrett went on to her reward on the first day of January in 2025. She was preceded in
death by her parents, William and Joanna Spivy, brothers John Spivy and Douglas Spivy, sisters
Jo Ellen Haislip and Della Mae Rudd . She has also been reunited with her baby girl, Sheila Fay.
She is survived by her adoring husband of 64 years, Foster Garrett of Pulaski, and their two
daughters: Sheri (Steve) Putnam and Carla (Greg) Tinnon. She earned her favorite title of
“Nannie” in 1987, when she had the first of five surviving grandchildren. These grandchildren
include: Mary Lauren (Clay) Doggett, Whitley (Clint) Jackson, Leslie (Jake) Hamby, Zac (Beth)
Putnam, and Garrett (Ashlea) Tinnon.
In later years, Dot would often say, “Just look at this mess we made, Dad” to her husband while
they were surrounded by their great-grandchildren, of which there are twelve.
She is also survived by brothers Allen (Elaine) Spivy and Gordon (Diane) Spivy.
Dot was a living representation of the virtuous woman found in Proverbs 31. She was a woman
of incredible talents, loving generosity and immovable faith. She was a sure and steady
presence for her family who will miss her dearly, but who, because of her example, will see her
again.
Visitation for Dot Garrett will be on Friday, January 3, 2025 from 4pm to 6pm at Bennett-May
and Pierce Funeral Home. On Saturday, January 4, a short visitation will be held at 10am
followed by a funeral service at 11am at the Fairview Church of Christ. Burial to follow at the
Lynnwood Cemetery in Lynnville, TN.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her honor to the Fairview Church of
Christ Youth Group. Mailing address 1765 Industrial Loop Road, Pulaski, TN 38478.
