He leaves behind his children: Adam Carden (Breanna), with grandchildren Beckett and Ellie; Josh Carden, with grandchildren Jonathan, Jocelyn, Lilly, and Noah; Zac Carden (Stacy), with grandchildren Carley, Sarah, Micah, Lanah, Skylah, and Eliah; and Morgan Spohn (Eric), with grandchildren Luke and Kaydence.

He shared his life with his beloved partner, Tana Compton, whose children he embraced as his own: Casey Compton (Emily), with grandchildren Oliver and Jack, and Lacey Rudy (Nick), with grandchildren Lillian and Gabriel.

Johnny was a proud graduate of Florence State College (now the University of North Alabama), where he attended on a tennis scholarship. He was a formidable player, known for his blazing serve and his skill on the court, earning him high seeding on the team. Johnny won many local and regional tournaments and lettered in 1969, 1971, and 1972. He took immense pride in his accomplishments on the tennis court and in the classroom, showcasing his dedication and competitive spirit.

He later earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Nashville School of Law, which launched a successful career that took him all over the United States, where he made a lasting impact on countless lives.

Johnny lived a life full of passion and joy. His love for travel took him to corners of the world many only dream of, with Portugal holding a special place in his heart. A die-hard Kentucky basketball fan, Johnny never gave up hope that “this year” would be the year for the Wildcats. He also found great joy in following Lawrence County sports, especially Wildcats football and basketball, faithfully cheering them on every season.

Johnny’s thirst for knowledge was evident in his love for reading, and his tireless work ethic was matched only by his devotion to family. Whether through a text or phone call, Johnny was always just a moment away, ready to lend a listening ear or a helping hand. His selfless care and boundless love made him the heart of his family.

As the years passed, Johnny became affectionately known as “Pops,” not just to his grandchildren but to all who loved him. He was their biggest cheerleader, celebrating their accomplishments and always encouraging them to chase their dreams.

Johnny Carden was a man who truly lived for others, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories that will forever live in the hearts of his family and friends.

A private service will be held for immediate family to honor Johnny’s life and legacy.
