The Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) released the findings of its yearly roadside observational survey to ascertain the average rate of seat belt use in the state. According to this survey, the statewide utilization rate was 92.2 percent. Compared to Tennessee’s 2023 survey result of 92.0 percent, the 2024 usage percentage indicates an increase of almost 0.2 percent. Tennessee has the highest yearly seat belt usage rate to date, according to the 2024 survey results. Through THSO grant-funded initiatives including Ollie Otter, Reduce TN Crashes, Rule the Road, and Tennessee’s Occupant Protection Coalition, the THSO collaborates with state and local partners to raise the state’s seat belt usage rate each year. The THSO also reminds people to buckle up by promoting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Click It or Ticket” seat belt enforcement program.
