The U.S. Department of Health and Human Programs awarded a $118,795 grant to the Community Action Agency of Northwest Alabama Inc. to support low-income citizens with local programs. Governor Kay Ivey announced on Tuesday that 18 community action organizations that offer programs to assist low-income residents in becoming economically independent will receive $3.4 million. The Community Services Block Grants will assist community action organizations in Alabama in offering local services to qualified persons and families. The funds raised will be used for a variety of programs by the groups that received them, such as those that teach individuals the skills necessary to find employment, aid participants in keeping their homes, and offer emergency support to stop further deterioration in their lives. The local organizations decide what kinds of aid are needed in their areas. The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is in charge of managing the funding.
