The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation into allegations of charity fraud in Limestone County this October. According to the inquiry, TikTok star Amy Dianne Elmore Downs, 57, of Athens, AL, better known as Slotmachinequeen, requested money for a false charity that allegedly helped homeless people and victims of domestic abuse between 2021 and 2024. To assist the charity cause, Downs asked her fans to donate money to her own PayPal, CashApp, and Venmo accounts. Throughout the examination, Downs’ name was not associated with any legitimate charity. An additional inquiry revealed that Downs had not disclosed any employment since 2020 and that no charity had been registered with the Alabama Attorney General’s Office. Under the pretense of charitable contributions, Downs has transferred around $1 million into her bank accounts since 2021. The results led to the establishment of probable cause for Downs’ arrest on seven counts of first-degree charitable fraud and three counts of tax evasion. The bond amount for Downs has been set at $1,125,000. There may be more charges in the future, and the investigation is still ongoing. Limestone Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with any knowledge of this scheme to provide details.
