On Thursday, December 12th, volunteers joyfully navigated tables filled with bags of presents as part of the yearly Angel Tree distribution event. Red Salvation Army aprons were worn by many. According to Lt. Michelle Cook of the Salvation Army of the Shoals, 1,035 angels were given Christmas presents this year. Since 2019, that is the largest number of people Angel Tree has served. About 90 angels were returned a few weeks after Angel Tree adoptions. All were redistributed in two days, and 17 more were placed on a waiting list, prepared to be adopted if any more were brought back. Volunteers completed sorting and categorizing gifts three days ahead of schedule since people returned their gifts so quickly. It “takes an army” to organize the Angel Tree donations as volunteers go through the gifts to ensure that the identification numbers match and that every child has had their shopping done. Additionally, on Wednesday, December 11th, 740 food boxes were arranged. At least one was given to each family, and more boxes were given to those with bigger homes.
