Maury County Receives $20,00 Check from Brownfield Redevelopment Area Grants

Maury County recently received a $20,000 check from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) through the Brownfield Redevelopment Area Grants (BRAG) program. Maury County will use the money to determine which areas should be prioritized for redevelopment. In July, the state announced 36 brownfield redevelopment awards, including this one. The Rural Brownfield Redevelopment Investment Act, which safeguards the environment and generates economic possibilities, particularly in rural areas, is the source of BRAG funding. The law gives development boards and local governments the authority and resources they need to look into, clean up, and rebuild abandoned buildings. A brownfield is an unused or deserted property because of possible contamination. Remediation encourages financial investment while reducing risks to the environment and public health.
