Through the 2024 Community Development Block Award (CDBG) Imminent Threat Program, the City of Columbia is happy to announce that a $420,000 award has been approved. To improve public safety across the city, this vital funding—which is being managed in collaboration with the South-Central Tennessee Development District (SCTDD)—will help establish a cutting-edge siren emergency notification system. Twelve carefully positioned sirens will be installed throughout the city as part of the initiative. Three electrical sirens with spoken and audio alarm capabilities and nine mechanical sirens with audible alarm delivery will be part of the system. When finished, the system will be an essential mass notification tool. The City of Columbia is grateful to the South-Central Tennessee Development District for their continued collaboration in this effort and to the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development for their sustained commitment to local communities. As development progresses, updates on the project’s status will be provided.
