Tennessee residents are urged to prioritize fire safety by minimizing risky behaviors that endanger both themselves and emergency personnel as the colder months approach. Working smoke alarms are a homeowner’s first line of protection against house fires in any season. The SFMO’s “Get Alarmed, Tennessee!” smoke alarm campaign is assisting in lowering the danger of home fires in an effort to protect Tennessee residents and save lives. This winter, households can install functional smoke alarms and adhere to some basic fire safety guidelines, which include: Furniture, rugs, and other combustible materials should be kept at least three feet away from wood stoves and space heaters. Keep your Christmas tree away from fires, candles, heating appliances, and other heat sources. To protect your Christmas tree from drying out, water it frequently. With your family, practice your home’s fire escape strategy. Everybody should be aware of two exits from every room. Before leaving a room or going to bed, turn off heaters. Never heat your house using an oven. Visit the website to find out more about “Get Alarmed” and to receive a free smoke alarm https://www.tn.gov/…/prevention…/get-alarmed-tn.html
