At their Tuesday meeting, Colbert County commissioners are expected to vote on motions that will close any gaps pertaining to American Rescue Plan Act funding that assisted local governments in compensating for COVID-19-related losses. ARPA funds must be obligated by December 31 or they will be returned to the federal government, commissioners were told. ARPA-funded projects must be finished by December 31, 2026. A new Emergency Management Agency/Colbert 911 dispatch center, a new water and sewer line to serve the property, improvements to Rose Trail Park Colbert Alloys Park, and other capital improvement projects are just a few of the projects funded by the approximately $10 million in ARPA funds that the Colbert County Commission received. The county’s accounting for ARPA funding and the Investing in Alabama Counties (IAC) accounting for those funds are at odds with one another.
