Between December 13, 2024, and January 1, 2025, District 7 and the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) will step up enforcement of impaired driving through the ‘Booze It and Lose It’ campaign. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, which aims to lower the number of impaired-driving collisions across the country during the Christmas season, includes the THSO’s statewide Booze It and Lose It program. In order to significantly lower the amount of drunk driving collisions, injuries, and fatalities this year, more sobriety checks, high visibility enforcement, and more state and national messaging on the risks of drunk driving are being implemented. In Tennessee, a first-time offender who receives a single DUI conviction may face expensive fines, court expenses, legal fees, jail time, required drug and alcohol treatment, and/or the installation of an ignition interlock device in their car.
