With immediate effect, Mike Howard has been appointed as the new market President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of North Alabama Medical Center (NAMC) and North Alabama Shoals Hospital (NASH), both of which are affiliated with Lifepoint Health. Having been NAMC’s chief operating officer from 2015 to 2022, Howard, who has been acting as interim CEO since September, provides a wealth of knowledge about the facilities and the community. Howard has 28 years of experience as a healthcare leader, and throughout that time, he has proven to be able to improve operational efficiency, create strong organizational cultures, and improve the quality of treatment. Higher quality ratings, improved patient safety scores, and staff engagement to foster a healthy work environment have all been made possible thanks in large part to his leadership. Howard has also received praise for his capacity to promote creativity, assemble cooperative, productive teams, and produce significant results that improve community health and patient care. As an advocate for community involvement, Howard has also worked with professional and civic groups including the American Heart Association, YMCA, and Rotary Club, showcasing his dedication to fostering enduring relationships in the community. Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence, Alabama was replaced by North Alabama Medical Center, which opened its doors in 2018. More than 200 doctors from more than 42 specialized fields of medicine work at North Alabama Medical Center, a regional clinic. The 263-bed institution provides a full range of medical and imaging services, women’s and children’s services, and the sole open-heart surgery location in the community.
