Columbia Police Officer Talks a Woman Out of Suicide

Officer Wiser, of the Columbia Police Department, was called to a residence on October 5th regarding a female who was suicidal. The woman had been cutting herself after locking herself in a bedroom. Officer Wiser was informed that the woman had PTSD and was afraid of the police. Through the bedroom door, Officer Wiser was able to connect with the woman and develop a relationship. As a result, the woman left the bedroom and consented to be taken to the hospital. Officer Wiser’s actions and application of her training resulted in this incident being settled without any injuries and the need for further resources. In October 2024, Officer Wiser received the title of Officer of the Month. Great Job Officer Wiser!
