According to recently released data from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD), unemployment rates decreased in two-thirds of Tennessee’s counties from the previous month. October unemployment rates were lower than September rates in 63 of the 95 counties in the state. In 17 counties, rates rose, while in 15 counties they stayed the same. In October, unemployment rates in all but six Tennessee counties were below 5%. The rates in those six counties were more than 5% but below 10%. In October, Tennessee had a 3.3% seasonally adjusted unemployment rate. Although it was eight-tenths of a percentage point lower than the national rate of 4.1%, the rate was somewhat higher than it was the previous month. County rates, in contrast to the statewide rate, are not modified to take into consideration factors like weather and school breaks that affect employment throughout the year.
