On Wednesday, members of the Lauderdale County School Board took their first tour of the Innovation Center’s building site. Volkert’s construction manager, John Hitt, conducted the tour of the 96,000-square-foot building and a separate, 6,000-square-foot multipurpose center. Students will begin attending the center at the beginning of the 2026–2027 academic year. According to Hitt, the first of several loads of metal studs arrived Wednesday morning, and the stud installation will start in roughly a week and a half. The second level of the building’s auto mechanic part, which will house an IT hub and plenty of storage space, is currently getting flooring placed, and storm drainage is being built throughout the building. This will be a long process but will be an amazing innovation for Lauderdale County staff and students.
