On Thursday, November 14th, New Prospect Fire Department as well as Lawrence County EMS, Lawrence County Sheriffs Department, and Lawrence County EMA responded to a high priority call at New Prospect School where the patient was unresponsive and not breathing in the car rider line. School staff was already performing CPR and deployed the AED before emergency personnel arrived on the scene. This act of instinct ultimately saved the patients life. When Lawrence County EMS arrived, the patient had regained a pulse and was then transported by Air EVAC due to having cardiac arrest. After arriving at Maury Regional Hospital, the patient received a successful heart catheter, is stable, but still in serious condition. This is a prime example of the importance of having quick instincts in a serious situation and what actions to take such as CPR and defibrillation. This is made possible by the connections the community has to local emergency personnel.
