Due to several animal abuse calls within a week, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in regards to aggravated animal abuse. A nearby neighbor stated seeing a dog laying in the residence’s front yard due to previous wounds that were untreated. When trying to make contact for the second time with the homeowners there was no answer. Deputy William Roush stated that the dog “smelled dead and rotten, but was barley breathing”. The dog has been in the same area of the yard with no adequate shelter, food, or water. After finally getting contact with the homeowners, both of the offenders were aware of the dog’s condition and failed to act. When asked why the dog had been in the same spot for 5 days, their response were inexcusable stories. Both offenders were arrested and charged with Aggravated Animal Cruelty to Animals and Cruelty to animals.
