David Marston, the Lawrence County Wildcats’ head football coach, is leaving as of November 8th. He feels it’s time to pass it on to someone else after 35 years on the sidelines. That amounts to 21 years as head coach and 14 years as an assistant coach. He can count the number of practices missed on one hand, has never missed a game, and has been on the sidelines for 362 straight games. Coach David Marston took over a 1-9 football team when he took over as head coach in 2003, and he went on to win ten postseason games, eight playoff games, and two bowl games. He also recorded the program’s only two playoff victories, was named two-time District Coach of the Year, Times Daily Middle Tennessee Coach of the Year, Tennessee Titans Coach of the Week, and this past Friday night marked his 100th victory as head coach of the Wildcats. The Lawrence County High School football program will be supervised by the present assistant coaches until an alternative is found. The head coaching position will be advertised as soon as possible.
