Our military members, both men and women, enlist with little idea of what their service will involve. They could avoid danger, but they may be asked to do much more. They are contributing to the preservation of our way of life, which includes the right to vote, in everything they do.
The annual Veterans Day parade in Lawrence County starts at 11:00 on November 11th. Marshall Bain Jr., an Army veteran who served in Vietnam from 1973 to 1976, is this year’s grand marshal. A recent fundraising event for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a nationwide organization established in the wake of 9/11, was arranged by Mr. Bain at Rotary Park. We urge you to visit T2T.org to learn more about the organizations incredible work.
This year, the Administrative Center, Courthouse, and Veterans Service Office on Buffalo Road will all have green lights glowing outside. It is an element of Operation Green Light, a national initiative that you can participate in to let veterans know they are valued, supported, and seen. There are 5,536 Veterans in Lawrence County who are actively in our community as members of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and numerous other civic and religious organizations. They deserve and need our help, as do service people who are leaving the military and coming home to Lawrence County.
