On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, a good Samaritan called 911 to report an attack in progress in Elkmont, AL, according to Limestone County Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin. When Elkmont Police Chief Donny Johns arrived, he discovered a brutally battered and bleeding old man and woman. Charlie Cain Jr. ran on foot toward the Richard Martin Walking Trail from Chief Johns. About a mile from the site, Cain was found in the woods along the walking track by Captain Caleb Durden and Chief Johns. They took Cain into captivity. The victims were identified as Cain’s parents. The following charges against Charlie Ray Cain, Jr., 55, of Elkmont, AL, were determined to have probable cause: there is no bond set for Elder Abuse since he attacked his mother, for Elder Abuse 2nd Degree for attacking his father, no bond set for Domestic Violence 3, Criminal Mischief 3, and a domestic violence protection order was broken. Bonds are set for attempting to Elude Law Enforcement, $2500 Bond, Public Intoxication bond at $500, Resisting Arrest bond $1000 and DUI warrant with a $1000 bond. Cain is now charging Class A and Class B felony charges in ordinance with the Alabama Elders Act.
