Grants totaling $1.3 million for the renovation and recycling of solid waste management convenience centers and used automobile oil collection were granted today by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC). The grant programs assist and motivate local municipalities to reach recycling and solid waste targets. By improving infrastructure and offering accessible ways for citizens to participate, local governments may divert more waste from landfills. The Division of Solid Waste Management Funding Program at TDEC is in charge of overseeing the funding. Tennessee counties that require funding to enhance current locations, build new convenience centers in underserved regions, or replace and remove green boxes are eligible to apply for the convenience center grants. Funding for the establishment of new public do-it-yourself automotive fluid collection sites in underserved areas or for the improvement of existing facilities to encourage used oil recycling and education are the primary goals of used automotive oil grants. Lawrence County was one of the many counties chosen in Tennessee.
