More than 400,000 gallons of water leakage per day have been found and fixed, according to Mt. Pleasant, Mt. Pleasant Gas and Water System, and Columbia Power and Water Systems. In order to maintain the integrity of Mt. Pleasant’s water system while repairs were being made, CPWS supplied a sizable emergency water supply through the master meter connection during the most recent winter storm, according to a news release. In the process, problems with the distribution system were found and fixed, and the treatment facility was restarted and maintained. Significant leaks were found by Mount Pleasant Water during this work. It was estimated that the leaks, once fixed, were responsible for the daily loss of 400,000 gallons. According to the news statement, current construction costs for treatment capacity build-out range from $10 to $12 per gallon, therefore the repairs have saved an estimated $5 million in capital investment for treatment plant growth.
