Early Tuesday morning, the incident claimed the life of a 17-year-old passenger in a car that veered off the road, collided with an embankment, and then overturned, colliding with a culvert and a utility pole. The teenager from Tuscumbia, who was riding in a 2007 Toyota Camry, was not wearing a seat belt when the collision occurred, according to troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s highway patrol division. He was declared dead at the site. The 17-year-old driver suffered an injury and was taken to a hospital by life flight. The other passengers, a 16-year-old and another 17-year-old, were hurt and taken to nearby hospitals. All of the teens were residents of Tuscumbia, Alabama and the incident is still under investigation.
