Donald Thomas Wilkins, age 90, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2024, in Columbia, Tennessee. Born on June 19, 1934, to the late David Fitzgerald Wilkins and Vera Huffstuter in Williamsport, Tennessee, Donald lived a life of service, dedication, and love. He married the love of his life, Carolyn J. Dial, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage and raised three wonderful children.
Donald proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, where his strong sense of duty began. After his military service, he devoted 21 years of hard work to the Maury County Sheriff’s Department, where he held various positions, including Dispatcher, Jailer, and Transport Officer, before his retirement. His professionalism and commitment to his community were an inspiration to those who knew him.
Donald’s memory will be cherished by his children: Cynthia J. (Rick) Gentry and Thomas Wayne (Melanie) Wilkins; granddaughters: Jenny Lee (Josh) Bridges, Kari Beth (Corben) Atkins, and Carol Ann Harlow; great-grandchildren: Reed Bridges, Grant Bridges, Finn Atkins, Owen Atkins, Jackson Atkins, and Mac Atkins. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn Wilkins; his daughter, Donna C. Graves; and his siblings: John A. Wilkins, Ulna Wilkins, Ray Wilkins, George D. Wilkins, Louise Beasley, and Jessie Wilkins.
Donald’s love for his family, dedication to his work, and unwavering strength of character will leave an enduring legacy. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends and visitors on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. Following, a graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM in the Garden of Matthew at Polk Memorial Gardens.
