Barbara Ann Nelson, age 89 of Loretto, TN passed away Thursday, October 10, 2024, just 12 days shy of her 90th birthday.

Ann was the youngest of five children of James and Laura Hammond born on October 22, 1934. She was a native of Lawrence Co, TN, a retired accountant, a Loretto Lioness Club member and a member of Loretto Methodist Church. Ann loved Jesus, loved her family and friends, and sought to serve everyone she could.

Ann grew up in Five Points, graduated from school and then moved to the Nashville area to start her family and continue her education. Ann always had a sharp mind and she loved to learn and took any class she could to learn new skills. Her love of learning and creativity meant that she had made almost every decorative piece in her home. Her skill could really be seen in the kitchen. Her family cherishes the many memories gathered around her table any time they were together as she cooked the best meals.

Ann was a long-term member of Loretto Methodist Church and she was always thankful for her church family. She was a quintessential traditional United Methodist Woman. She served her church as President of the United Methodist Women, a delegate to Conference on behalf of her church and a long-time supporter of Martin Methodist College. She was always finding ways to serve God in her community through local events and organizations and through her long-time support of UMCOR and Mountain Top.

Ann loved her family. The family she was born into and the family she created. She loved being “mom” to Anita and “grandmother” to her three grandkids and then “great grandmother” to her 10 great grandkids.

She is survived by her daughter, Anita Lowe.

Granddaughter, Laura Terry and husband Mark Terry of Bowling Green, KY.

Grandson, Nick Lowe and wife Megan Lowe of Bowling Green, KY.

Granddaughter, Sarah Cox and husband Joe Cox of Henderson, KY.

Sister, Faye Lynch of Centerville, TN.

Her 10 great grandchildren: Kaylin Terry, Jaxson Terry, Grayson Terry, Emma Claire Lowe, Addison Lowe, Mason Terry, Aiden Lowe, Laurel Cox, Deacon Cox, and Liza Kate Cox.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Nelson,

parents, James and Laura Newton Hammond,

brother, Jimmy Hammond,

sisters, Betty Hammond and Martha Rollins,

son-in-law, Nick Lowe.

The Funeral Service will be Tuesday, October 15th at 11:00am at Loretto Methodist Church with the burial to follow. Visitation will be Monday, October 14th from 5:00pm-8:00pm at Loretto Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and Tuesday, October 15th from 10:00-11:00am preceding the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Loretto Methodist Church.
