Shortly after 8:30 on the evening of October 11th, Lawrence County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle crash with one vehicle on fire and patients trapped in the vehicle on Buffalo Road near Valley Road. First-arriving units from Ethridge Fire Department arrived on the scene and confirmed that two patients were heavily pinned inside one of the vehicles. The fire had been extinguished but both patients were triaged as critical. The incident commander quickly recognized the severity of the entrapment and requested additional resources to the scene. While our personnel worked to extricate the patients from the vehicle two air medical helicopters were summoned to the scene. Once patient access was made personnel from Lawrence County EMS provided treatment. After the extrication was complete both patients were transported by air medical helicopters to Level 1 Trauma Centers for continuation of treatment. Units from the Lawrenceburg Fire Department also responded to the scene as part of a mutual aid request. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
