Rita Gail Jones, age 70, of Lawrenceburg, TN was born on Monday, April 5, 1954, and departed this life on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Meadowbrook Healthcare & Rehab in Pulaski, TN. She was a native of Lawrence County, TN, a homemaker, and worshipped at St. John United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Murlene Jones; her father, Lamond Houston Blair; one daughter, Tonya Yvette Liles; two sisters, Joyce Marie Jones and Brenda Jones; and one brother, William Cecil Jones.
She is survived by three cherished daughters, Lavita Short, Olivia Short, and Petrina Short; one son, Reggie Short (Libby); two sisters, Sherry Wallace (James), and Carol Jones; three grandchildren, Jaron Liles (Amanda), Dematri Short, and Monifah Young; four great-grandchildren; niece, Miranda Steele (Thalas); special cousin, Jeanette Perkins; a host of cousins; friends; and five stepchildren, Sharon Boyd, Sheela Boyd, Karen Boyd, Derek Boyd, and Eric Boyd. She also leaves to cherish a very special longtime companion for 25 years that she loved very much, Willie Childress. Those serving as pallbearers are David Vantell, Kainnon Truitt, Lamont Appleton, Dematri Short, Jaron Liles, Terrance Hassel, and Rodney Liles. Honorary pallbearer will be James Wallace. The flower girls are Letha Newsom, Shadonda Perkins, Miranda Steele, Tyanna Bumpas Brown, and Norma Sharp. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice Compassus and Meadowbrook Healthcare and Rehab.
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Neal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 1:00 PM Saturday, September 21, 2024, with Kevin Cross and James Morton officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Ararat Cemetery in Lawrenceburg, TN. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
