Friends of Lawrence County Animals (FOLCA) along with The Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, hosted a reception this morning to introduce and welcome the new The Doggie House – Lawrenceburg Animal Shelter Director, Ginger Morgan. The new animal shelter also serves Lawrence County. Director Morgan replaces April Shahan, who recently left to join her former employer, Maury County Animal Services.

Dick McKinnly, City of Lawrenceburg Administrator, said he is thrilled at Morgan’s appointment as she is a leader who has the significant experience and skills needed to impact and serve in this important role.

Morgan comes to the shelter with decades of demonstrated results in shelter management and animal welfare non-profits with a heavy emphasis on communications.  Morgan formerly served as the Director of The Memphis Humane Society.  Most recently, she headed PuppyUp, a canine cancer awareness association, as its President.

Currently, the shelter is open for adoptions, however, closed to intake with the exception of law enforcement emergencies.  “Most shelters right now are currently at capacity and given the new shelter is the first county-wide facility in Lawrence County, this situation was to be expected”, said McKinnley.  McKinnley continued, “Morgan’s first priority is to reduce the number of residents at the shelter through adoption, transport and rescue partnership placement so it can reopen as soon as possible and resume accepting dogs from the community”.

FOLCA’s new President, Rosalind O’Steen Fort, said the association is thrilled to welcome Ginger Morgan to animal shelter and greatly anticipates the positive impact Morgan will have with the expertise she brings with her. She said, “We are very much looking forward to the continued, wonderful relationship FOLCA has with the shelter and we are excited to share additional details about our partnership at this “Meet and Greet" event.

Director Morgan thanked everyone for the warm reception and said, “I am excited to be at the Animal Shelter and in a position to impact the lives of the animals in our care and Lawrence County. I look forward to working with FOLCA on many future projects.”

Those projects include transforming a doggie adoption truck and completing the shelter campus with an additional intake building.
