A little over $16,000 dollars was raised during Radio 7 Media’s Cash for Cancer Fundraiser which concluded on Tuesday. The effort began at the beginning of the month when the staff made the decision to help patients and survivors in the stations’ listening area who have been affected by cancer and who need support during their journey. The idea was to keep the money local and to help with aftercare through support groups and other means. WLX, The X and WDXE radio then recruited assistance from local officials and dignitaries to help with the fundraiser along with sponsors who were eager to join in with this endeavor. Station Manager Charlotte Stremler advised “When we started this from the beginning it was nothing more than who could bring in the most money donated in their names with the winner receiving a pie in the face for a good cause.” It then became much more as it led to individual challenges that resulted in Lawrence County Sheriff John Myers dying his hair pink, Lawrenceburg City Police Chief Terry Beecham wearing a dress, Tennessee Tech Site Advisor Chris Jackson wearing a Trump t-shirt, and Lawrence County Executive David Morgan and Lawrenceburg City Mayor Blake Lay wearing a baby bonnet and diaper. Other participants who accepted the challenge included State Representative Kip Capley, Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce President Ryan Egly along with Stremler and Radio Sales Executive Madi Hyde. The station set out with a goal of raising $15,000 dollars which they exceeded thanks to the generosity of the wonderful people in Lawrence and Surrounding Counties along with the amazing sponsors who signed on which included Bank of Frankewing, McMaster’s Home Gallery, Cloud 9 Fiber, Heritage Automotive, Chapman Tires, Lawsons, Markus Insurance, and Citizens Bank. Prior to the main event on Tuesday, Stremler expressed how grateful and thankful the station was of everyone who helped in the fundraiser and gave a special thanks to the generosity of Citizens Bank who matched some of the money collected. Lawrenceburg City Mayor Blake Lay ultimately received the pie in the face. The event was a success, and the station hopes to continue to do fundraisers like this in the future.
