A SUSPECT IN A WAYNE COUNTY DRUGSTORE BURGLARY IN MARCH HAS NOW BEEN CHARGED WITH MURDER IN THE DEATH OF A MAN WHO ALLEGEDLY WAS PART OF THE CRIME. ACCORDING TO THE WAYNE COUNTY NEWS, CLIFTON POLICE INVESTIGATED A BREAK-IN AT A PHARMACY ON MAIN STREET IN EARLY MARCH. OFFICERS REPORTED SEEING TWO MEN LEAVE THE STORE AND RUN. AUTHORITIES BELIEVE BOTH FELL INTO THE TENNESSEE RIVER, WHICH WAS AT FLOOD STAGE. ONE MAN IDENTIFIED AS 21-YEAR-OLD CORTEZ AMISON OF BESSEMER, ALABAMA, MADE IT OUT OF THE WATER AND WAS ARRESTED ON BURGLARY CHARGES. SEARCH CREWS COMBED THE RIVER AND SURROUNDING AREA FOR SEVERAL DAYS WITHOUT FINDING THE SECOND PERSON. AUTHORITIES SAID THE MAN’S BODY WAS FOUND WEEKS LATER IN DECATUR COUNTY. AUTHORITIES HAVE NOW CHARGED AMISON WITH FELONY MURDER IN THE CASE, ALLEGING THAT 33-YEAR-OLD JERMAINE GROOM OF BIRMINGHAM DIED AS A RESULT OF THE BURGLARY.
