Lawrenceburg Mayor Blake Lay was re-elected to the board of directors of the Tennessee Municipal League (TML) during the League’s annual business meeting.
Lay was nominated and re-elected during a district caucus of TML members from the Middle Tennessee region. As the director of District 6, Lay is one of eight district directors elected to represent his section of the state. District 6 comprises 43 Middle Tennessee cities and towns, including Brentwood, Franklin, Spring Hill and Columbia.
As a member of the TML board of directors, Lay will propose and help determine legislative needs of municipalities and establish policy priorities for the League.
Founded in 1940 and based in Nashville, TML is a nonprofit organization founded by cities and towns for mutual assistance and improvement. Representing 99 percent of Tennessee’s municipal citizens, the organization advocates for needed legislative action by the General Assembly, represents municipal interests before state departments and agencies, and seeks to influence federal legislation and policies affecting municipal governments—working through the National League of Cities in Washington, D.C.
“It’s an honor to be re-elected by a group of my peers to serve in this position,” said Lay. “Serving on the TML board for a second term positions me to continue affecting positive change not only for Lawrenceburg but also for all of the cities and towns I represent in District 6. I’m humbled and excited about continuing to work for the citizens of Tennessee on the TML board.”
In addition to eight district directors, the TML board also includes past TML presidents, mayors of Tennessee’s largest cities and eight at-large directors.
